IG Lab Meeting

Jessie and I batted this idea around, but then real life ate me and I forgot to post it.

We need an in-game lab meeting.  I don't know who's going where doing what with which pieces of equipment, and neither does Abby.  Well, okay, she knows some stuff, but we have a prodigious number of squints right now, and several projects going on.  Scientists keep really random hours, so everyone might not always see everyone else.  Trust me.  I don't see people for days when we theoretically work in the same lab.

So, when would be a good time?  This weekend might be too short notice.  But maybe next week?  Or next weekend?

What do you think?

Would the meeting be an attempt to try to organize things or pair like-minded people up on projects or figure out a system of handling the equipment or what? I know Bob has several projects in mind and definitely uses the equipment a great deal, so he'd be up for a meeting for any reason like that.

Maybe next weekend before everyone's age goes all wonky? (Though, the idea of them having a meeting where a lot of them are not their proper age is kind of amusing...) Would you want to figure some things OOG since IG stuff can sometimes really lag and get convoluted?

I've sort of been assuming there's an equipment sign-up sheet for everything major. There almost always is. And if there isn't, someone will eventually make one (usually me in my lab) because not knowing who used the spec last and then broke the damn thing is maddening.

And we should definitely figure some stuff out OOG. Trying to figure it out IG would probably send us all to the looney bin. So, what projects is Bob working on?

That's one vote for next weekend then.

Oooh, that makes sense. Then I'll go ahead and assume that Bob has dutifully been filling out the sign-up sheet anytime he's used anything. He's good for that. :-)

Projects!

01] Bob's major project at the moment is perfumery. Which sounds kind of superfluous to everyone else, probably, but it's kind of his passion. So, he's been using test tubes and stuff a lot for that. So far he's only made one cologne and has had several botched attempts in the process of that. He's getting there, though.

02] Kind of going hand-in-hand with that, he's been inspecting the flora and fauna of the Island a great deal and categorizing what everything is. He still has a LONG way to go there since he hasn't gone too far out yet, but he's extremely detailed in his notes.

03] He's talked to both Mayko and Jill about possibly building a weather tower on the mountain. Mayko's agreed to designing it, but the project has yet to completely take off. I'm sure that'll happen sometime in the near future.

04] Bob is STILL trying to figure out a way to go home. He knows they're fictional now and he's generally okay with staying, but he always has hope that they'll stumble onto something. So, he's been trying to figure out the meaning behind the notes they have as well as doing a lot of reading on time travel and wormholes. Not sure that really counts as a project, but since Bob does still devote time to it, I thought it'd be worth a mention.

05] I'm kinda throwing this one in here even though it's more Sunny's thing, but she'll be away for a few days, so I thought I'd get it out there. I know she wants David to kind of investigate the dinosaurs further. Get samples of their blood, examine their DNA, figure out if there's any kind of potential danger there virus or bacteria-wise and see what they find out. I have NO idea if that's already been done before or not, but it would definitely be interesting.

... And, I think that's it. I think.

Abby would love him forever if he always filled out the sign-up sheet. Most people forget at least part of the time. And of course, there's always that one person that just will. not. do it. :P

I think (though I could be wrong) that in general the dinosaurs have been avoided rather than studied, so that's a good project. And the perfumery is fun too. Part of the whole evolving community thing, I think, is doing things that aren't always strictly NECESSARY.

Bob, I have a feeling, is one of those people who does it METICULOUSLY. If he ever didn't, it'd just be because he forgot. And Bob rarely forgets.

That's because most people are SANE about the dinosaurs. David, apparently, is not. Heh. I'd love to see how that played out, honestly.

As far as dinosaurs go, Bones has a pretty meticulous library of the notes left by previous scientists, and a fair amount of cataloged info, all done back when she was the only freaking squint. :D

re: wormholes - he might want to talk to John Crichton. Not that he knows that he should, but yeah. :E

Pretend I'm replying with Mayko's journal.

Mayko is definitely into working on the weather tower, and if she gets her computer one day into programming some modelling software if someone can get her up to speed on what data she'll be working with.

She also really wants to uncover whether the dinosaurs are genetically engineered or not, which sort of nicely dovetails with what David will be working on. If they can find a way to do it.

Pretend I'm answering with Jill's journal. XD

Jill would absolutely love a meeting, especially so she can meet the other scientists she hasn't met yet and I think it'd be a great idea to find out what sort of projects are going on. Since all the muns can't possibly know what every other squint pup is working on, there's always the potential we're missing out on having our pups work together on something that, realistically, they'd love having their hand in.

I'm thinking maybe this coming week should be good. Then again, I'm pretty much always around, so I'll be down for whenever. :D

Yes, exactly! If we have a meeting, we have to discuss these things OOG, and then we know for IG. I mean, Abby is one of the three heads of the lab and I have no freaking clue what other people are doing. I can handwave some science stuff, but it gets to the point that you can't handwave EVERYTHING.

That's one vote for this coming week. :)

Pretend I'm answering this in the EMH's journal. :D

I'm up for next weekend as well. As for projects, well:

One thing he's extremely interested in is developing some better surgical equipment because: OMG who uses metal knives to cut people anymore?!

While a laser scalpel is definitely out of reach for the island, obsidian blades aren't. *puts on Archaeologist hat* There's a stigma regarding obsidian blades because it's viewed as going backwards instead of forwards, but there's solid research indicating that not only does obsidian give a cleaner cut than it's metal counter-part, it also has minimal to no scarring. *takes off Archaeologist hat* Also, it'd be IC for the EMH to know this since he canonically knows a lot about Native American medicine. Also, given that they're on an island with a mountain, obsidian would be available. He'd just need some archaeologists or squints to help him dig properly and such as he wouldn't conceivably know where the best place to dig would be. :D

Two votes for next weekend.

Oooooooh, obsidian blades. I had no idea. I am not an archaeologist, clearly. That's a fun project, and obsidian would definitely be available on our not-so-little chuck of igneous rock. He and Lara Croft could enjoy finding the obsidian. :)

You're an ANGEL for posting this. Real life ATE me too.

And yes, next weekend is good. We should probably put together like an outline of things to be discussed.

Bones also wants to get some lab bitches now that she lost hers.

Maybe training new squints can be one of the things they discuss. I know we have some squint-minded people, if they're not complete squints.
