In light of the departure of Grissom, Sara, and Catherine, there needs to be a lab decision on a few things.

Number one is the council rep from the lab.   Catherine was selected by a vote at a lab meeting.  We can certainly handwave another lab meeting and decide who would have been chosen to replace her if anyone has any suggestions on who ought to do that.  We have lots of talented scientists, so if any of them would like to be the rep, please put their names forward.

Number two is lab leadership.  At the moment, Bones is in charge of General Squintiness and Abby is in charge of Experimental Medicine (and probably handles a lot of the day to day running of the lab).    This leaves a spot for Criminal Forensics.  Now, given that Abby and Bones both do Criminal Forensics, this could be rolled into their jobs, but if someone would like to be in charge of that specifically, please let me know.

Related to lab leadership, Abby started running the lab when we had very few research-oriented doctors (MD or PhD) available.  I know some people get a little squiffy (okay, a lot squiffy) about non-doctoral lab leadership.  If any pups would be likely to object to Abby being in charge, please do let me know.  I promise I will not be offended.  Abby might be a little feisty, but if it's IC for your pup to question Abby's position, it is totally cool with me.

I know it's the holidays and we're all busy, so none of these decisions have to be made right now, but they should be made pretty soon, especially in the case of the council rep.

Both Warrick and Mohinder would support Abby's current leadership of the lab, although Mohinder might suggest there ought to be someone in charge of non-experimental medicine, ie, handling the day to day requests of the clinic for bloodtyping and diagnosis, etc so that got handled/staffed with a separate priority?

As for Council, Jill was running, so she makes a good choice. Mohinder would do it, if asked. Despite his protestations about not being a politician, five years working for Nathan Petrelli taught him plenty.

That's not a bad idea. With 300-something people on the island, the day to day stuff has to be getting bigger.

One vote for Jill!

Nick would support Jill for council, and wouldn't object to Abby-as-leader or anything. With those three departures, Nick will probably be spending more time in the lab, partly to Deal with his Manpain, and partly because he's just that sort of guy to step up and do more when needed.

Three for Jill and Nick is welcome to spend as much time in the lab as he likes.

Bones would support Jill as council rep, very much.

Also, anyone making any noise about Abby's status would like get a foot in the ass from one Temperance Brennan. :D

On that note, I guess Bones would probably continue to insist on being there immediately in case of crime to ensure the sanctity of the scene, and etc. She's also serving as coroner at the moment. I need to remember to post at some point to see if anyone wants to "help" her with the dead people.

Though RL is eating me, her next post will indicate what it's perfectly okay that most of the lab suspects, about her being pregnant.

Four for Jill!

Oh, I didn't think Bones would agree to do anything else but be there right then. She's as crazy about chain of evidence as all the other squints. :)

Jill would absolutely want to be Council rep if the others would agree to it.

And she'd be perfectly cool with Abby being in the leadership position.

At the moment, she's got 4 votes to everyone else's none, so that's a distinct possibility. :)

Awesome! Also, this is probably as good a place to mention as any. Jill's last item was a vortex mixer and it's never been added to the list of lab equipment on the wiki. I've never done it just because the list says all the items are numbered according to the map and I don't want to mess with things. XD Should I just add it anyway? It remains on Jill's station, but is free for anyone to use.

Yeah, I never added that because we've never decided who has what spot in the labs, so I didn't know where to put it. Since it's so itty-bitty, go ahead and add it and it won't get a number. :)

Bart has been spending more time in the lab, and anyone can handwave his helping out with doing general oversight and recordkeeping in regards to experiments and the like. But he doesn't really have any opinions on leadership or council representation.

He's more likely to just say leadership belongs to people with the talent and desire to lead, although he's definitely interested in the forensics stuff going by, but won't push his way in because he barely started training in the subject.

Everyone starts somewhere in forensics and Abby's happy to have him tag along and help wherever. :)

At least he's a fast learner. Eidetic memory has to count for something. Just ask McGee about him rules-lawyering in D&D games. *grins*

Jo will go with whatever Abby suggests because she trusts her.

Beyond that I've not got very far with threading with pups that work in the lab and I haven't read enough threads with them in to have an opinion as to who should be the rep. So Jo and I will go with whatever everyone else decides.

This might be out of the question, but considering Abby does forensic science anyway, it might make sense to have her head that "dept" and have one of the doctors head up experimental medicine?

Just a thought.

Yeah, Jessie and I were talking about reorganizing the lab leadership structure a little bit, sort of related to that idea. There'll probably be a post about that after Christmas sometime.
